Our Rating
We originally wanted to go either the St. Regis or the Peninsula for our August staycation. However, the St. Regis was unfortunately fully booked and the Peninsula was comparably more expensive if we take into account of all the elite benefits at a Marriott property. At the end, we decided to go to the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong again. And lucky that we went back to the Ritz-Carlton.
We’ve gone through the same booking process as in July and, again, decided to book a suite with lounge access. We were quite happy to see that our booking has already been upgraded to an executive suite a day before check-in. On the day of our stay, we checked in at the Club Lounge quite early as we had our lunch booking at Tosca di Angelo at noon.
Upon check-in, we asked the staff if the Carlton Suite was available and what would be the cost for an upgrade. While we understand that it would not be a free upgrade, we would like to know the cost and maybe the hotel was feeling very hospitable and just let us upgrade for free. The helpful staff at the Club Lounge did take our inquiry seriously and said they would need some time to figure out the logistics (and the cost) and get back to us after our lunch.
Sometime during lunch, we got a message from the Club Lounge that they could offer us a very special rate on the Carlton Suite and, mostly importantly, they could turn it around by the time we finished lunch. We gladly accepted the offer and greatly appreciated their effort. And, at the risk of being too demanding, we asked if they could also provide us with an in-room tent (for the plushies).
The Carlton Suite
We were promptly shown to the suite right after lunch and the in-room tent has been set up in the bedroom. Everyone was really happy with the suite – the plushies loved the tent and the hooman loved the living room. And the suite came with a delicious birthday cake, a bottle of Ritz champagne and two greeting cards presented by the little Ritz-Carlton lions.
The greeting cards was a big surprise – the bigger one was written and signed by many staff members of the hotel and the smaller card was a message from the St. Regis Hong Kong! How thoughtful they were.
Afternoon Tea at the Club Lounge
The Club Lounge is usually located on Level 116 but they moved it down to Level 102 on that day. The staff was very nice and offered to send the afternoon tea sets to our suite so that we didn’t need to walk all the way down to Level 102. The afternoon tea was quite nice; though we were still a little bit full.
Glamping in the Cloud
The plushies had a lot of fun with the tent. They gathered together and had a glamorous picnic with scones, sandwiches and champagne while the hooman was having afternoon tea. The view was spectacular but they didn’t care a bit as they were having fun inside the tent.
At night, all the baby plushies formed a circle around the tent light and listened to the Ritz-Carlton lions telling all the haunted stories of the hotel. They were all so frightened afterwards. Luckily, we were on a different floor… π» π» π»
Michelin-starred In-room Dining
The Chinese restaurant at the hotel, Tin Lung Heen, is located on Level 102 of the building with a beautiful view of Kowloon but that couldn’t even compare with the view and the comfort of our own suite. They serve traditional Cantonese cuisine and it’s great that they can do in-room dining.
We have also had a dim sum lunch at Tin Lung Heen on the next day. We thought it was just okay and we will try to make a post specifically on Tin Lung Heen.
Club Lounge on Level 102
As the Club Lounge was moved to Level 102, they offered a slightly different food options. We would have the buffet breakfast at the Lounge and Bar and the light lunch was offered from a menu. We were happy to try the breakfast at the Lounge and Bar but we still prefer the breakfast at the lounge on Level 116. The light lunch, though, was quite good and we thought it’s even better than the buffet on Level 116.
All in all, we had the most wonderful stay at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. We have been treated very well and their service level was outstanding and, more importantly, consistent! We know we would have a good time and money well spent at this hotel.
